Tarkempaan

Tarkempaan is a fictional coastal town in the Nordic-inspired realm of Nordhavn. It is commonly referenced in world-building guides and regional histories as an example of a small port town with a mixed economy.

Situated on a protected inlet along a fjord-like coastline, Tarkempaan covers about 12 square kilometers and has rolling hills behind the harbor. The climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and cool summers. The population is around 5,200 residents.

The town was founded in the 14th century by mariners from the inland trading league. It developed as a fishing port and trading post, and experienced modernization in the 19th century with a small railroad line and a timber mill. In the 20th century it expanded into tourism.

Etymology is uncertain; early charts show forms such as Tarkempa and Tarkempen, from a local dialect. In fictional histories, the name is sometimes linked to harbor watchfulness and precise navigation.
