Tarix is a word in Azerbaijani and other Turkic languages meaning history, chronology, or dating of events. It denotes both the academic discipline of history and the broad concept of past events. In Azerbaijan and other Turkic-speaking communities, Tarix is also used as a given name for individuals; in Turkish, its cognate form is tarih, and in Persian and Arabic-influenced languages the root appears as tarikh.
