Tareadjusted is a term used in weighing and inventory contexts to describe a measurement in which tare weight—the weight of a container, packaging, or other non-content material—is excluded from the final value. It emphasizes that the reported weight reflects only the contents, not the container that holds them. The concept helps ensure accurate net weight readings across various applications.

Tare adjustment is typically achieved by determining the tare value and subtracting it from the gross weight. On many scales, the tare function or zeroing sets the display to zero when a container is placed on the balance, so subsequent measurements show only the contents. In other systems, a fixed tare value is entered for a familiar container, enabling repeated weighings without reweighing the container each time.

Net weight is calculated as Net weight = Gross weight − Tare weight. This relationship underpins many practical workflows in retail, shipping, laboratories, and food service, where knowing the true mass of the contents is essential for pricing, labeling, dosing, and inventory control.

Applications include retail product weighing, freight and logistics where tare-adjusted weights influence pricing, and laboratory or kitchen settings where containers must be excluded from measurements.
