Tangentialkontakt refers to a specific type of contact or connection where two entities touch or interact at a single point, with the point of contact being on the tangent to a curved surface. This concept is frequently encountered in geometry and physics, particularly in the study of curves and the motion of objects.

In geometry, tangential contact describes the relationship between a line and a curve. A line is considered to have tangential contact with a curve if it touches the curve at exactly one point and does not intersect it on either side of that point. This point is known as the point of tangency, and the line is called a tangent line. This idea is fundamental to understanding the instantaneous rate of change of a function, as represented by its derivative.

In physics, tangential contact is often observed in scenarios involving friction and motion. For instance, when a wheel rolls without slipping along a surface, the point of contact between the wheel and the surface is a point of tangential contact. At this instant, the velocity of the point on the wheel touching the ground is zero relative to the ground. This ensures that the wheel does not slide. Similarly, when objects are in contact and there is a force acting parallel to the surface of contact, this force is transmitted through tangential contact.
