Tamiz

Tamiz refers to the Tamil people, an ethnic group native to the Indian subcontinent. They are primarily found in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the Union Territory of Puducherry, and the northeastern part of Sri Lanka. Significant Tamil diaspora communities also exist in Malaysia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The Tamil language, a Dravidian language, is central to their identity and has a rich literary history spanning over two millennia.

The culture of the Tamil people is characterized by its ancient traditions, including classical music and dance forms like Bharatanatyam, elaborate temple architecture, and a distinct cuisine. Historically, the Tamil kingdoms, such as the Chola, Chera, and Pandya dynasties, played a significant role in the region's political and economic landscape, establishing vast trade networks and influencing Southeast Asia. Their religious practices are predominantly Hindu, with a strong devotional tradition, though Christian and Muslim communities are also present. The concept of "Tamil pride" or "Tamil identity" is a significant aspect of their cultural consciousness, often linked to their language, history, and unique cultural heritage.
