Takatähtäin

Takatähtäin refers to the rear sight on a firearm. It is a component of the aiming system, working in conjunction with the front sight to provide a line of sight to the target. The rear sight is typically located on the rear portion of the barrel or receiver.

There are various types of rear sights. Open sights, the most common, consist of a notch or aperture. The shooter aligns the front sight post within the notch or aperture of the rear sight. Aperture sights, also known as peep sights, use a small hole for the eye, which can aid in precise aiming by naturally centering the front sight. Tang sights are often found on rifles and are mounted on the tang, the part of the receiver extending to the rear of the action.

Adjustability is a key feature of many rear sights. Windage adjustments allow for horizontal correction, compensating for wind or shooter error. Elevation adjustments enable vertical correction, accounting for the bullet's trajectory at different distances. These adjustments are crucial for accurate shooting.

The design and quality of the rear sight can significantly impact a firearm's accuracy and the shooter's ability to acquire a target quickly and precisely. Proper alignment of both the front and rear sights is fundamental for effective aiming.
