Taitos

Taitos is a term that most often refers to Taitō Ward (Taitō-ku), one of Tokyo's 23 special wards. Located in eastern Tokyo, Taito belongs to the historic Shitamachi district and blends residential areas with commercial streets and cultural attractions.

Geography and neighborhoods: The ward contains well-known districts such as Asakusa, Ueno, Yanaka, and Okachimachi. Asakusa houses Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise shopping street, Ueno features Ueno Park and several museums, and Yanaka preserves Edo-period lanes and traditional shops.

Cultural and tourism: Taito draws visitors seeking traditional Tokyo, with temples, markets, museums, and seasonal festivals such as Sanja Matsuri. The district also supports a vibrant local economy centered on retail and dining.

History and administration: Taito Ward was established in 1947 during Tokyo's postwar municipal reorganization, consolidating several older wards and neighborhoods under a single local government.

Other uses: The romanized name TAITO is also the name of a famous Japanese video game company; this usage is distinct from the ward.
