TaS2
TAS2 is a gene that encodes a protein involved in the perception of sweetness and bitterness in the human sense of taste. The TAS2 gene is one of the six TAS genes, which encode bitter taste receptors, and TAS2 specifically encodes the T2R receptor. This receptor is responsible for responding to a wide range of bitter compounds, including denatonium benzoate and chloroquine.
The TAS2 receptor is activated by molecules of bitter substances and signals the presence of these compounds
Research has shown that the TAS2 gene plays a role in the sensitivity to certain bitter compounds,
The TAS2 gene is also of interest in fields outside of basic taste biology, such as pharmacology
