TTLwaarden, short for Time To Live values, are a fundamental concept in computer networking, particularly within the Domain Name System (DNS) and Internet Protocol (IP) packets. In DNS, a TTL value associated with a DNS record indicates how long a DNS resolver should cache that record before querying the authoritative DNS server again. This caching mechanism reduces the load on authoritative servers and speeds up DNS resolution for end-users. When a client requests a domain name, the DNS resolver first checks its cache. If the record is present and its TTL has not expired, the resolver returns the cached IP address directly. Otherwise, it performs a new query.
