TR08

TR-08 is a compact desktop drum machine and synthesizer produced by Korg as part of its Boutique series. Introduced around 2014, it is a digital recreation of Roland's classic TR-808 drum machine, designed to capture the original's distinctive percussion sounds in a small, portable unit suitable for studio use and live performance. The device emphasizes intuitive programming and hands-on control.

Sound and programming: The TR-08 reproduces the TR-808's drum voices, including bass drum, snare, clap, closed and open hi-hats, rimshot, cowbell, and several toms. It employs digital modeling to mimic the tonal character of the originals, while providing modern editing tools. A 16-step sequencer drives patterns, and a motion-sequencing feature records knob movements for evolving performances. Patterns can be arranged into songs or synchronized with other equipment.

Connectivity and compatibility: The unit supports MIDI and USB connections for integration with other gear, and offers traditional sync options to clock with other devices. It is designed to be used with external mixers or audio interfaces, rather than as a standalone workstation. The TR-08 complements other Boutique instruments and can be combined with analog and digital gear to recreate 808-style patterns in a modern setup.
