TFRSIFRS

TFRSIFRS refers to the Turkish Financial Reporting Standards as applied in Turkey, aligned with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The Turkish authorities adapt IFRS to reflect local legal, tax, and corporate requirements, creating the Turkish Financial Reporting Standards (TFRS) as the framework for financial reporting in the country. The standards are issued and maintained by the Kamu Gözetimi, Muhasebe ve Denetim Standartları Kurumu (KGK), known in English as the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority.

TFRS covers recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosures. The numbering and content largely mirror IFRS, with Turkish amendments where necessary to accommodate local regulatory or statutory needs. The standards apply to entities that prepare statutory financial statements in Turkey, especially publicly accountable enterprises such as listed companies, banks, and insurance firms. Other entities may apply TFRS on a voluntary basis or where required by law.

Relation to IFRS is central to TFRSIFRS: IFRS provides the global framework, while TFRS adapts and implements it within the Turkish legal and regulatory environment. Updates to IFRS are incorporated into TFRS through KGK issuances, ensuring ongoing alignment while allowing for Turkish-specific disclosures or interpretations. Adoption and use of TFRS aim to enhance comparability of financial statements between Turkish entities and international investors, supporting transparency in the Turkish market.

In practice, corporations reporting under Turkish law typically produce financial statements that conform to TFRSIFRS for external reporting, while tax and other local requirements may still apply supplementary rules.
