This method quantifies the amount of water that evaporates from the skin's surface. A healthy skin barrier effectively retains moisture, leading to low TEWL values. Conversely, a compromised skin barrier, often due to conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or environmental factors, allows for increased water loss, resulting in higher TEWL readings.
