Türeoglobuliini

Türeoglobuliini is a glycoprotein synthesized by follicular cells in the thyroid gland. Its primary role is to serve as a storage form of thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are crucial for regulating metabolism, growth, and development in the body.

The synthesis of türeoglobuliini involves the iodination of tyrosine residues within the türeoglobuliini molecule, followed by the coupling of these iodinated tyrosines to form T4 and T3. This process occurs within the colloid, the lumen of the thyroid follicles. When the body requires thyroid hormones, the follicular cells reabsorb türeoglobuliini from the colloid and break it down to release T4 and T3 into the bloodstream.

Türeoglobuliini is also used as a tumor marker for differentiated thyroid cancers, particularly papillary and follicular carcinomas. Elevated levels of türeoglobuliini in the blood can indicate the presence of residual tumor tissue or recurrence of the cancer after treatment, such as surgery or radioiodine therapy. Regular monitoring of türeoglobuliini levels is a standard practice in the follow-up care of patients with these types of thyroid cancer. However, it's important to note that elevated türeoglobuliini can also be seen in non-cancerous thyroid conditions like hyperthyroidism or thyroiditis, so it is not solely indicative of malignancy.
