Tümpanikavitus, also known as tympanitis or otitis media, is an inflammation of the middle ear. This condition is common, particularly in children, and can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Often, it follows an upper respiratory infection such as the common cold, where the Eustachian tube, which connects the middle ear to the back of the throat, becomes blocked and inflamed. This blockage prevents normal drainage and air pressure regulation in the middle ear, creating an environment where fluid can build up and become infected.
