Térdprotézisekhez refers to knee prostheses or artificial knee joints. These are medical devices designed to replace a damaged or diseased knee joint, restoring function and alleviating pain. The procedure to implant a knee prosthesis is known as knee replacement surgery.

Knee prostheses are typically made from a combination of metal alloys, plastics, and polymers. The components are designed to mimic the natural movement of the knee joint. There are two main types of knee replacement surgery: total knee replacement and partial knee replacement. A total knee replacement involves replacing all three compartments of the knee joint, while a partial knee replacement addresses only one or two damaged compartments.

The decision to undergo knee replacement surgery is usually made when conservative treatments, such as medication, physical therapy, and injections, have failed to provide relief from chronic knee pain and disability. Common conditions leading to knee replacement include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis.

The surgery involves removing the damaged cartilage and bone from the thighbone (femur) and shinbone (tibia) and replacing them with artificial components. A plastic component is often placed between the metal components to ensure smooth gliding. Recovery after surgery typically involves a period of hospitalization followed by extensive physical therapy to regain strength and mobility. While knee prostheses can significantly improve quality of life, they are not without risks, including infection, blood clots, and loosening of the implant over time.
