Távhvezetékhálózatok, often translated as district heating or district cooling networks, are integrated systems designed to supply thermal energy to multiple buildings from a central source. These networks distribute either hot water or steam for heating purposes, or chilled water for cooling, through a network of insulated underground pipes. The primary advantage of such systems lies in their efficiency and potential for environmental benefits.

Centralized energy generation allows for the utilization of large-scale, more efficient heating and cooling technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP) plants, which produce both electricity and thermal energy simultaneously, significantly improving overall energy utilization.
