Süüdistatavatele

Süüdistatavatele is an Estonian term that translates to "to the accused" or "for the accused." It refers to individuals who are formally charged with committing a crime in the Estonian legal system. This designation is made after an investigation has concluded and prosecutors have determined there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a criminal case.

The status of süüdistatav carries specific legal rights and protections. The accused individual has the right to legal representation, the right to remain silent, and the right to be informed of the charges against them. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. During the legal process, the süüdistatav will have the opportunity to present their defense, either by providing evidence, calling witnesses, or challenging the prosecution's case.

The term is central to criminal proceedings in Estonia. It marks the transition from being a suspect, where an investigation is ongoing, to being a formal party in a criminal trial.
