Südamerika

Südamerika is the German word for South America, a continent located entirely in the Western Hemisphere, with the vast majority of its landmass in the Southern Hemisphere. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean. North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. The continent comprises twenty-two sovereign states and a number of overseas territories that depend on sovereign states from other continents.

The geography of Südamerika is incredibly diverse. It is home to the Andes Mountains, the longest continental mountain range in the world, running along its western edge. To the east of the Andes lies the Amazon Basin, the largest tropical rainforest in the world and home to the Amazon River, the largest river by discharge volume. Other significant geographical features include the vast plains of the Pampas in Argentina and Uruguay, the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, in Chile, and the Patagonia region in the south, known for its glaciers and rugged landscapes.

The population of Südamerika is a rich tapestry of indigenous peoples, European settlers, and descendants of African slaves, as well as significant Asian and Middle Eastern immigration. This has resulted in a vibrant cultural mosaic, reflected in its languages, music, cuisine, and traditions. Spanish and Portuguese are the predominant languages, with indigenous languages also spoken in many regions. Key economic activities include agriculture, mining, and the export of natural resources.
