Südamepumpamist

Südamepumpamist, often referred to as cardiac massage or chest compressions, is a critical emergency procedure performed when an individual's heart has stopped beating effectively. This cessation of normal heart function, known as cardiac arrest, leads to a lack of blood circulation and oxygen to vital organs, particularly the brain. Südamepumpamist aims to manually circulate blood by applying rhythmic pressure to the chest.

The procedure involves placing the heel of one hand on the center of the chest, between the nipples, and the heel of the other hand on top of the first. With straight arms and shoulders positioned directly over the hands, rescuers push down firmly and rapidly. The depth of compression for adults is typically about two inches, and the rate is around 100 to 120 compressions per minute. For children and infants, the depth and hand placement vary.

Südamepumpamist is a cornerstone of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It is usually performed in conjunction with rescue breaths, where air is artificially introduced into the lungs. The goal is to maintain a minimal level of oxygenated blood flow to the brain and other organs until professional medical help arrives or the heart's natural rhythm can be restored, often through defibrillation. Prompt and effective südamepumpamist significantly increases the chances of survival for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest.
