Sögulegrar

Sögulegrar, also known as Icelandic sagas, are a genre of Old Norse literature that originated in Iceland during the Middle Ages. These narratives are typically written in Old Icelandic and are characterized by their focus on heroic deeds, historical events, and mythological elements. Sögulegrar are often categorized into two main types: historical sagas and legendary sagas. Historical sagas recount real events and figures, while legendary sagas are based on folklore and mythology, featuring gods, giants, and other supernatural beings.

The most famous collection of sögulegrar is the Prose Edda, compiled by Snorri Sturluson in the 13th century. This work includes a variety of sagas, such as the Njal's Saga, the Grettis Saga, and the Laxdæla Saga. Another notable collection is the Poetic Edda, which includes the works of the skalds, such as the poems of Bragi Boddason and Egil Skallagrímsson.
