Säätösuureeksi

Säätösuureeksi is a Finnish term that translates to "controlled variable" or "manipulated variable" in English, commonly used in the field of control engineering and process control. It refers to a quantity or parameter within a system whose value is actively adjusted or regulated to achieve a desired outcome or maintain a specific state. In a control system, the säätösuureeksi is the output or a key characteristic of the process that the controller aims to influence.

For instance, in a heating system, the temperature of a room is the säätösuureeksi. The controller measures the current temperature and compares it to the desired setpoint. Based on this comparison, the controller then adjusts the heating element's output, which is the manipulated variable, to bring the room temperature closer to the setpoint. Other examples include the speed of a motor, the pressure in a vessel, or the flow rate of a fluid. The goal of a control system is to keep the säätösuureeksi at its target value despite disturbances or changes in the system. The effectiveness of a control system is often measured by how well it can maintain the säätösuureeksi at the desired level with minimal error and rapid response.
