Säädinperiaatteet describes the fundamental concepts behind how control systems operate. A control system's primary goal is to maintain a desired output value, known as the setpoint, despite disturbances or changes in the system. This is achieved through a feedback loop. The system measures the actual output and compares it to the setpoint. The difference between these two values, called the error, is then used by the controller to generate a corrective action. This action is applied to the system's input to drive the output back towards the setpoint.

There are several common types of controllers based on different säädinperiaatteet. Proportional (P) control adjusts the corrective action in proportion to the error. This is simple but can lead to steady-state errors. Proportional-Integral (PI) control adds an integral term that considers the accumulation of past errors, helping to eliminate steady-state errors. Proportional-Derivative (PD) control incorporates a derivative term that anticipates future errors based on the rate of change of the error, improving stability and responsiveness. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control combines all three elements, offering a widely applicable and robust control strategy. The specific tuning of these parameters is crucial for achieving optimal performance for a given application. Other principles include fuzzy logic control and model predictive control, which utilize more complex algorithms to manage system behavior.
