Säteilytehokkuutta is a Finnish term that translates to "radiant efficiency" in English. It is a measure used in the context of electromagnetic radiation, particularly in areas like lighting, lasers, and antennas. Radiant efficiency quantifies how effectively a device converts input energy into useful electromagnetic radiation.

In lighting, for example, radiant efficiency refers to the ratio of the optical power emitted as visible light to the electrical power consumed by the light source. A higher radiant efficiency means more energy is converted into light, and less is wasted as heat or other forms of energy. Incandescent bulbs have very low radiant efficiency, with most of their energy lost as heat. LEDs and fluorescent lamps generally have much higher radiant efficiencies.

For lasers, radiant efficiency can describe how well the pump energy is converted into laser output power. In antenna theory, a similar concept might relate to the power radiated by the antenna compared to the input power delivered to it, often discussed in terms of radiation efficiency. This efficiency is a crucial factor in optimizing the performance and energy consumption of various electromagnetic devices. It helps engineers and designers to compare different technologies and to improve the overall effectiveness of their systems.
