Säteilytehokkuus is a Finnish term that translates to radiation efficiency in English. It is a measure used in various scientific and engineering contexts to quantify how effectively a system converts input energy into radiated electromagnetic energy. This concept is particularly relevant in areas such as antenna design, lighting technology, and energy conversion processes.

In the context of antennas, radiation efficiency refers to the ratio of power radiated by the antenna to the net power accepted by the antenna terminals. A highly efficient antenna radiates a significant portion of the input power as electromagnetic waves, minimizing losses due to factors like ohmic resistance or dielectric losses. Low radiation efficiency means that much of the input power is dissipated as heat rather than being transmitted.

In lighting, radiation efficiency can describe how well a light source converts electrical energy into visible light. For incandescent bulbs, much of the energy is lost as heat (infrared radiation), resulting in low visible radiation efficiency.
