The main lobes of a radiation pattern represent the directions where the antenna radiates most effectively. Side lobes are smaller lobes that radiate in directions other than the main direction. Nulls are directions where the antenna radiates very little or no power. Understanding the radiation pattern is crucial for designing and deploying antennas for specific applications, such as broadcasting, telecommunications, and radar.

Factors influencing a radiation pattern include the antenna's physical design, its size relative to the wavelength of the signal, and the presence of nearby objects. Different antenna types, like dipoles, yagis, and parabolic dishes, have distinct radiation patterns suited for different purposes.
