Szájszervek

Szájszervek refers to the mouthparts of arthropods, which are highly diverse and adapted to different feeding strategies. These appendages are located around the mouth opening and play a crucial role in acquiring and processing food. The specific structure and arrangement of mouthparts vary greatly among insects, crustaceans, and arachnids, reflecting their evolutionary history and ecological niches.

In insects, the typical chewing mouthparts consist of several pairs of appendages. The mandibles are usually the primary structures for biting and tearing food. The maxillae assist in manipulating food and often bear sensory palps. The labium, or lower lip, also aids in food manipulation and may have sensory palps. Modifications of these basic structures lead to specialized mouthparts such as piercing-sucking, sponging, or siphoning, found in insects like mosquitoes, houseflies, and butterflies, respectively.

Crustacean mouthparts are also complex, often starting with two pairs of mandibles and several pairs of maxillae, followed by maxillipeds which can have feeding or sensory functions. These structures are used for grasping, tearing, and moving food towards the mouth. Arachnid mouthparts, such as the chelicerae in spiders, are often modified into fangs for injecting venom or grasping prey. Pedipalps, another pair of appendages near the mouth, can be used for sensing, capturing prey, or reproduction.
