Szydowiec

Szydłowiec is a town located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in south-central Poland. It is the seat of the rural-urban gmina Szydłowiec and the Szydłowiec County. The town is situated in the historical province of Lesser Poland.

The history of Szydłowiec dates back to the 12th century, with mentions of a settlement existing as early as 1109. It received town rights in 1402. The town experienced significant development in the 15th and 16th centuries, becoming an important center for trade and crafts, particularly iron processing. The Szydłowiec Castle, a Renaissance complex, was built during this period and remains a prominent landmark.

Szydłowiec's economy has historically been linked to its natural resources, especially iron ore, which fueled its metalworking industry. In more recent times, the town has diversified its economic base. Agriculture and services also play a role in its economy.
