Szerintetek

Szerintetek is a Hungarian adverbial pronoun meaning “in your opinion” or “according to you (plural).” It is used to ask for or present the viewpoint of a group of people in informal speech and writing, especially in everyday conversation and online communication. The form stands with the second-person plural reference, contrasting with szerinten (according to him/her/it) and the related personlig forms szerintem (in my opinion) and szerintetek (in your opinion, plural).

Grammatically, szerintek is formed from a base meaning of “according to” combined with a second-person plural suffix, producing a fused expression that functions as a discourse marker within a clause. It can appear at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence, typically preceding a question or a claim that invites others’ judgments. For example: Szerintetek jó ötlet ez?; Ez szerintetek működik?; Szerintetek mit tegyünk ezután? The phrase does not require a following verb in every case and often stands alongside a verb or clause that conveys the opinion being solicited.

Usage notes include that szerintek is informal and most common in spoken Hungarian and online forums. In formal writing or discussions, alternatives such as “az Önök véleménye szerint” or “ti véleményetek szerint” may be preferred.
