Szemezredés is a Hungarian term that translates to "eye revolution" or "eye age-old wisdom." It refers to a traditional, often intuitive, method of assessing the health and well-being of a person by observing their eyes. This practice is not a scientifically recognized diagnostic tool but rather a collection of anecdotal observations and folk beliefs passed down through generations.

The core idea behind szemezredés is that the eyes can reflect internal conditions. Practitioners might look at various aspects of the eye, including the color of the sclera (the white part), the appearance of the iris, the presence of rings or spots, and even the way the eyes move or react to light. For instance, certain yellowing of the sclera might be interpreted as an indicator of liver issues, or specific patterns in the iris could be thought to relate to different organ systems in the body.

Historically, this practice was common in rural communities where access to formal medical care was limited. It served as a way for individuals or community elders to offer preliminary assessments or advice based on observable signs.
