Syvyysvaikutteet, often translated as depth effects, refers to the visual and perceptual phenomena that arise from viewing three-dimensional objects or scenes. These effects are crucial for our ability to understand and navigate the world around us. They encompass a range of cues that our brains interpret to construct a sense of depth and distance.

Primary depth cues can be categorized into monocular and binocular. Monocular cues are those that can be perceived with only one eye. These include relative size, where larger objects appear closer, and linear perspective, where parallel lines converge in the distance. The brain fuses these two images, and the degree of disparity provides information about an object's distance. Convergence, the inward turning of the eyes when focusing on a near object, is another binocular cue.
