Syntettilateksia, also known as synthetic latex, is a flexible, waterproof material produced through polymerization of various monomers. Unlike natural latex, which is derived from rubber trees, synthetic latex is manufactured in industrial settings, offering greater control over its properties and composition. Common monomers used in its production include styrene and butadiene, leading to the formation of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) latex, a widely used type. Other types can be based on acrylonitrile (nitrile latex) or acrylic monomers.

The manufacturing process involves emulsifying monomers in water with the help of surfactants and initiators, which trigger the polymerization reaction. This results in a stable dispersion of polymer particles in water. The properties of synthetic latex can be tailored by adjusting the monomer ratios, particle size, and the types of additives used. This adaptability makes it suitable for a broad range of applications.

Syntettilateksia finds extensive use in various industries. It is a key component in the production of adhesives, paints, and coatings due to its binding and film-forming capabilities. In the textile industry, it is used to impart elasticity and water resistance to fabrics, such as in the manufacturing of gloves and diaphragms. It is also utilized in the production of foam for mattresses and upholstery, as well as in the creation of balloons and condoms. The consistent quality and specific performance characteristics achievable with synthetic latex have made it a preferred alternative to natural latex in many demanding applications.
