Syklivoltammetriaa

Syklivoltammetriaa, often referred to as cyclic voltammetry (CV), is a fundamental electrochemical technique used to study the redox properties of chemical species. In this method, a potential is applied to a working electrode, and the resulting current is measured as the potential is swept linearly between two set values. The potential is then reversed and swept back to the starting point, creating a cyclic waveform. The response measured is a plot of current versus applied potential, known as a voltammogram.

The shape of the voltammogram provides valuable information about the electrochemical reaction occurring at the electrode surface. Key features include the peak potentials, which correspond to the potentials at which the oxidation or reduction processes occur, and the peak currents, which are related to the concentration of the electroactive species and the kinetics of the reaction. The separation between the oxidation and reduction peak potentials can indicate the reversibility of the electrochemical process.

Cyclic voltammetry is widely employed in various fields, including analytical chemistry for quantitative analysis, materials science for characterizing electrode materials, and biochemistry for studying enzyme kinetics and redox processes. Its versatility, relative simplicity, and the wealth of information it can provide make it an indispensable tool for electrochemists.
