SwedishNB

SwedishNB is a term used to refer to the Swedish National Bank, the central bank of Sweden. While not the official English name, the designation sometimes appears in databases, software, or informal discussion as an abbreviation for Sveriges Riksbank.

Its core responsibilities are to maintain price stability, promote financial stability, and ensure an efficient payment system. It conducts monetary policy by setting the policy rate, guiding money market operations, and using other tools to influence short-term interest rates and liquidity in the banking system. It also performs lender-of-last-resort functions to financial institutions when needed.

The Riksbank issues Swedish banknotes and coins and supervises the payment infrastructure that underpins the economy. It also conducts macroeconomic analysis, publishes statistics, and contributes to financial regulation and systemic risk monitoring. Governance is by an independent board, headed by a governor, under the framework of the Sveriges Riksbank Act.

In recent years, the central bank has pursued research into digital currencies and payments innovation, including exploratory work on a potential general-purpose central bank digital currency known as the e-krona, as well as international collaboration on financial stability and monetary policy.
