Suruimasplistus

Suruimasplistus is a genus of fungus, belonging to the familyvridiales. It is a group of ascomycete fungi commonly referred to as cup fungi, characterised by the presence of cup-shaped apothecia.

Only a single species of Suruimasplistus is currently known: S uruimasplistus numidus. It was originally described from a collection of fungi growing on moss in Algeria.

Suruimasplistus numidus has been recorded from several locations across North Africa and Europe. It typically grows on moss in humid areas. The fungus is ectomycorrhizal, forming associations with plant roots.

Analysis of DNA sequences has revealed that Suruimasplistus is most closely related to other ascomycete cup fungi in the families vridiales and pezizales. The fungus contains two distinct types of DNA sequences similar to those found in earlier diverging pezizalean lineages.

Suruimasplistus is described in botanical literature as a rare species. Further research is necessary to conclusivley determine the full range and characteristics of the Surimasplistus genus.
