Suruga

Suruga is a geographic and historic name associated with central Japan. Historically, Suruga Province was one of the old provinces of Japan, located on the central coast of the area now covered by Shizuoka Prefecture along Suruga Bay on the Pacific Ocean. The province existed from ancient times until the Meiji period, when the modern prefecture system was established; its territory roughly corresponds to the central part of present-day Shizuoka.

Suruga Bay is a large inlet of the Pacific Ocean along the southern coast of Shizuoka Prefecture.

In contemporary contexts, the name Suruga continues to appear in place names and institutions within Shizuoka
