Surrogat

Surrogat is a general term for something that acts as a substitute or proxy, standing in for another object, person, or system. The word is used across languages and fields to describe something that stands in for the original, whether temporarily or for practical reasons.

In human reproduction, surrogacy involves a person who carries a pregnancy for others. In database design and data warehousing, a surrogate key is an artificial identifier used to uniquely identify records independent of business data.
