The mineral was first identified in the Kola Peninsula, Russia, in a unique geological setting known as the Lovozero alkaline massif. This massif is notable for its diverse mineralogy, including several rare and unusual minerals. Superscriptnumeroviite occurs as small, dark-colored crystals associated with other minerals such as microcline and aegirine.
