Sunak

Rishi Sunak is a British politician who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since October 2022. He previously served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022 and as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015.

Born in Southampton, England, Sunak was educated at Winchester College and then studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. He subsequently earned an MBA from Stanford University in California. Before entering politics, he worked in the hedge fund industry.

Sunak joined the Conservative Party and was elected to Parliament in the 2015 general election. He rose through the party ranks, serving in various junior ministerial positions before being appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in February 2020. As Chancellor, he oversaw significant economic measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July 2022, Sunak resigned as Chancellor, triggering a wave of resignations that ultimately led to Boris Johnson's departure as Prime Minister. He ran for the leadership of the Conservative Party in the summer of 2022 but was defeated by Liz Truss. Following Truss's resignation in October 2022, Sunak stood for the leadership again and was elected unopposed, becoming Prime Minister. His premiership has focused on addressing economic challenges and fulfilling promises made during his leadership campaign.
