Sulphurbased

Sulphurbased refers to compounds or materials that contain sulfur as a primary component. Sulfur is a chemical element with the symbol S and atomic number 16. It is a nonmetal that is abundant in nature, found in various forms including elemental sulfur, sulfides, and sulfates.

In chemistry, sulphurbased compounds are a vast and diverse group. Examples include hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a gas with a characteristic rotten egg smell, which is produced naturally through the decomposition of organic matter and industrially for various chemical processes. Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is another critically important sulphurbased compound, widely used in industries such as fertilizer production, petroleum refining, and chemical manufacturing. Organic sulfur compounds, such as thiols (also known as mercaptans) and sulfides, play significant roles in biology and industry, with some contributing to distinct odors while others are vital components of proteins and pharmaceuticals.

For instance, sulfur concrete is a type of concrete where sulfur is used as a binder instead of cement, offering advantages in terms of rapid setting and resistance to certain corrosive environments.
