Sulkeutumishäiriö, known in English as detachment disorder, refers to a group of psychiatric conditions characterized by significant difficulties in the ability to connect with one's own thoughts, feelings, memories, or sense of identity. These disorders are often a response to severe trauma, particularly during childhood, where detachment becomes a coping mechanism to distance oneself from overwhelming experiences.

There are several types of dissociative disorders, including dissociative amnesia, depersonalization-derealization disorder, and dissociative identity disorder. Dissociative amnesia involves an inability to recall important personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature, which is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. Depersonalization-derealization disorder is characterized by persistent or recurrent experiences of feeling detached from one's own body, thoughts, or feelings (depersonalization) or from one's surroundings (derealization). Dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder, involves the presence of two or more distinct personality states that recurrently take control of the individual's behavior, accompanied by memory gaps beyond ordinary forgetfulness.

These symptoms can significantly impair daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being.
