Suihkujäähdytys, known in English as spray cooling, is a heat transfer method that uses a fine spray of liquid to cool a hot surface. This technique is highly effective due to the large surface area created by the numerous small droplets. When the liquid droplets impact the hot surface, they atomize and spread, forming a thin film. This film then evaporates, absorbing a significant amount of heat from the surface through the latent heat of vaporization.

The effectiveness of spray cooling depends on several factors, including the flow rate and atomization quality of the liquid, the temperature difference between the liquid and the surface, and the properties of the liquid itself. Water is a common coolant due to its availability, low cost, and high latent heat of vaporization. Other fluids can be used depending on specific application requirements.

Spray cooling finds applications in various industries. It is used in metal processing for quenching hot workpieces, preventing undesirable phase transformations and controlling microstructure. In electronics, it can be employed to cool high-power components and integrated circuits, dissipating heat effectively to prevent overheating.
