Suctioncuplike refers to a class of devices or objects that rely on a suction cup-style membrane to create temporary adhesion to smooth surfaces. They typically consist of a flexible, dish-shaped membrane with a rim that seals against a substrate when air is expelled.

When pressed, the air between the membrane and the surface is displaced. Releasing forms a partial vacuum that maintains contact through atmospheric pressure. The materials are usually elastomeric polymers such as silicone rubber or natural rubber; some modern variants use hard plastic with a flexible inner seal. Some devices include a manual pump, lever, or twist to increase suction.

Common uses include mounting lightweight objects on glass, tile, or metal surfaces, such as hooks, accessories, or temporary signs. In photography and film, suction-cup-like mounts enable camera or light placements. In consumer products, car phone holders and bathroom hooks are widespread. In industrial and robotics contexts, suction cups or grippers are used for manipulating flat, smooth-surfaced parts.

Effectiveness depends on a clean, smooth, non-porous surface; dust, oil, or texture breaks the seal. Performance declines with temperature changes and over time as the membrane stiffens or tears. They support limited loads and are intended for temporary use. Regular cleaning and replacement when the material shows cracking are recommended.
