Substratikatalyysi, also known as substrate catalysis, is a fundamental concept in biochemistry and chemistry that describes the process by which enzymes, or catalysts, interact with their substrates to facilitate chemical reactions. In substrate catalysis, an enzyme binds to its substrate, forming an enzyme-substrate complex. This complex lowers the activation energy required for the reaction to occur, thereby increasing the reaction rate. The specificity of enzymes for their substrates is due to the precise shape and chemical properties of the active site, which is designed to complement the substrate's structure.

The mechanism of substrate catalysis can be broken down into several steps: substrate binding, transition state stabilization, and product release.
