Substanstyp

Substanstyp, also known as substance type, is a concept in psychology that refers to an individual's preferred way of experiencing and processing information. It is a central idea in the work of psychologist Carl Jung, who developed the concept as part of his theory of psychological types. Jung believed that each person has a dominant substance type, which influences their perception of the world and their interactions with others.

There are four primary substance types:

1. Feeling: Individuals with a dominant feeling type tend to be empathetic, intuitive, and value harmony and cooperation. They are often drawn to people and relationships, and they may excel in roles that involve nurturing and supporting others.

2. Thinking: People with a dominant thinking type are logical, analytical, and value objectivity and efficiency. They are often drawn to problem-solving and decision-making, and they may excel in roles that involve planning, organizing, and strategizing.

3. Sensing: Individuals with a dominant sensing type are practical, concrete, and value the present moment. They are often drawn to tangible experiences and details, and they may excel in roles that involve hands-on work, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving.

4. Intuition: People with a dominant intuition type are imaginative, innovative, and value possibilities and potential. They are often drawn to abstract ideas and future-oriented thinking, and they may excel in roles that involve creativity, innovation, and strategic planning.

Jung's theory of substance types has been influential in various fields, including psychology, education, and business. However, it is important to note that the concept of substance types is not universally accepted and is not a part of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Some critics argue that the concept is too vague and lacks empirical support. Nevertheless, the idea of substance types continues to be a topic of interest and debate in the field of psychology.
