Subatomeriske

Subatomeriske refers to particles that are smaller than an atom. While atoms were once considered the fundamental building blocks of matter, they have since been discovered to be composed of even smaller constituents. The most well-known subatomic particles are protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons reside in the atomic nucleus, while electrons orbit the nucleus in electron shells.

Beyond these fundamental components, the realm of subatomic particles extends much further. Protons and neutrons themselves are not elementary but are made up of quarks. There are six types of quarks: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Protons are composed of two up quarks and one down quark, while neutrons consist of one up quark and two down quarks.

Electrons, on the other hand, are considered elementary particles, meaning they are not composed of smaller components. They belong to a class of particles called leptons, which also includes neutrinos and muons. The Standard Model of particle physics categorizes subatomic particles into two main groups: fermions, which include quarks and leptons, and bosons, which are force-carrying particles like photons and gluons. The study of these subatomic entities and their interactions is the domain of particle physics, a fundamental branch of physics that seeks to understand the universe at its most basic level.
