Städteregion
Städteregion is a type of administrative division in Germany, specifically a "communal association" or "urban region" that aims to consolidate the administrative functions of a city and its surrounding rural districts. The most prominent example is the Städteregion Aachen, established in 2009 by the merger of the city of Aachen and the former district of Aachen. The primary goal of such a region is to improve efficiency and cooperation in areas like public transport, waste management, social services, and economic development.
By pooling resources and expertise, Städteregion aims to create a more unified and competitive regional entity.
