Styreenia

Styreenia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. The genus was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. It is characterized by its small, evergreen trees and shrubs, which typically grow to a height of 2-5 meters. The leaves are simple, alternate, and often have a glossy appearance. The flowers are small, white or pink, and are arranged in axillary or terminal clusters. The fruit is a capsule that contains several seeds.

Styreenia is known for its medicinal properties. The leaves and bark of some species are used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, including fever, inflammation, and digestive issues. The genus also has some ornamental value, with several species being cultivated for their attractive flowers and foliage.

There are approximately 20 species of Styreenia, with the most well-known being Styreenia prunifolia, which is native to the Caribbean and Central America. The genus is named after the French botanist Jean Styree, who was the first to describe the genus in 1753.
