Strukturbericht
Strukturbericht refers to a historical system used to classify crystal structures of inorganic solids, especially metallic alloys. Developed and popularized in the Strukturbericht (Structure Reports) series, the designation aimed to provide a concise way to reference known prototype structures and to compare newly observed arrangements with established ones. Each structure type is assigned a code consisting of a letter or combination of letters followed by a number, such as A1, B2, or C36. The letter denotes a general structure family, while the number identifies a specific prototype. The codes describe the atomic arrangement and lattice relationships rather than the exact chemical composition, and a single prototype can accommodate multiple compounds with varying stoichiometry.
Usage and scope: The Strukturbericht system served as a practical shorthand for discussing and cataloging crystal
Limitations and current status: Today the Strukturbericht designations are largely superseded by more explicit crystallographic descriptors,
