Strahlenschädigung

Strahlenschädigung refers to the damage to living tissue caused by ionizing radiation. This damage can occur at the cellular level, affecting DNA and other vital cellular components. Acute radiation syndrome, also known as radiation sickness, can occur after exposure to high doses of radiation over a short period. Symptoms can range from mild, such as nausea and vomiting, to severe, including organ failure and death. Different organ systems have varying sensitivities to radiation. For instance, rapidly dividing cells, such as those in bone marrow, the gastrointestinal tract, and the skin, are particularly vulnerable.

Long-term effects of radiation exposure can include an increased risk of developing cancer. Radiation can cause mutations in DNA, which can lead to uncontrolled cell growth. Other long-term consequences may include cataracts, infertility, and genetic mutations that can be passed on to offspring.
