Stolniks
Stolniks were high-ranking officials in medieval and early modern Russia. The term "stolnik" derives from the Old East Slavic word "stol," meaning table, implying a close relationship with the sovereign. Initially, stolniks served at the royal table, a position of considerable trust and proximity to the ruler. Over time, the role evolved into a more general court and administrative position, often one of honor and influence, though not always carrying significant executive power.
